Burger Bowl
You are busy, you want something fast and easy that the whole family will eat. Well let’s talk bowls then! What exactly is a bowl? Well, it’s all the good stuff thrown together in a bowl. Let me break it down for you – there is no plate needed, you pick a protein, some carbs, probably some fat, some seasoning, and viola = a bowl of deliciousness!!
Maybe you are new to this whole “bowls” thing so let’s start simple with this burger bowl. I know, I know, a burger is supposed to be on a bun. Says who? I say a burger goes just fine in a bowl. You will try this and you won’t even miss the bun. I mean, bowls are life, am I right? So maybe not life but …. try it anyway.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb lean ground meat of choice (ground beef or turkey)
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 2 tbsp ketchup (no sugar added)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- salt and pepper
- 4 cups romaine lettuce
- 1/2 red onion (more or less to taste)
- cherry tomatoes
- pickles
- Primal Kitchen 1000 island dressing
(Primal Kitchen is a clean ingredient dressing and my go to brand. If you use another brand, check the nutrition label to be sure you can read/recognize the ingredients. If not, maybe it is time to switch brands.)
NOTE: Makes 3-4 servings
DIRECTIONS
- Brown the ground beef/turkey
- Add salt, pepper, garlic powder
- When meat is cooked through add mustard and ketchup
- Adjust spices, if needed
- In a bowl place your romaine, red onion, cherry tomatoes and pickles
- Crumble the meat over the top and add your dressing
- Enjoy!
These burger bowls have other possibilities … bacon, carmelized onions, avocado! What will your burger bowl look like?
