FOR KIDS
Did you know I’m a Certified P.E. teacher? I have a B.S. in Exercise and Wellness, I hold a Master Teacher Certification in Colorado, an Advanced Teacher Certification in Hawaii, and I’m National Board Certified! Why does this matter? Because I know what I’m talking about when it comes to kids and physical activity.
Knowing the current trend of childhood obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, and even heart disease among our children, one strategy we have to combat these things is physical activity! Quality physical education is (sadly) missing from many of our schools. Sure, there are P.E. programs, but they aren’t always in the best interest of the students. And don’t even get me started on the “cutting P.E. so students can do better on testing by having more time for core subjects” discussion!!
Encouraging kids to get physical and include bouts of activity throughout the day can improve their sleep habits, increase their energy, decrease risk for certain health issues, and most of all guide them in a positive direction toward a healthy adolescence and adulthood.
Physical activity can feel like work and I don’t know about you but if something feels like work, I don’t want to do it! Imagine how your kids feel!! Having a fun, positive approach to fitness is important. I want kids to look forward to physical activity! Physical activity should be something kids ‘want’ to do, not feel like they ‘have’ to do. By introducing them to a variety of activities at a young age, we can set them up for success and enjoyment and positive health benefits.
I want the information I’m sharing here with you to bring a smile to your kids’ faces. Heck, I want it to bring a smile to YOUR face too!! Your kids will learn (and you too) to appreciate the value of activity. Let’s create kids that become adolescents that become adults that enjoy physical activity and reap the benefits!!
